Will UFC’s Brock Lesnar ever fight again???

Brock Lesnar, Ultimate Fighting heavyweight champion, may be in for the fight of his life. This time, though, it won’t be in the ring. On October 26th, it was announced that Lesnar had pulled out of UFC 106 against Shane Carwin for the UFC Championship due to illness. November 4th, it was confirmed the mixed martial arts athlete was suffering from mononucleosis. Ten days later, Dana White, UFC president was quoted as saying, “he’s not well and he’s not going to be getting well any time soon.” The next day, November 15th, Brock collapsed in his Canadian vacation home, returned home and was admitted to the hospital. It has since been revealed that Lesnar is suffering from a health problem above and beyond the original diagnosis of Mononucleosis. “He’s got mono and he’s got something else wrong with him. I know what’s wrong with him, he just doesn’t want me talking about it,” White said. “He doesn’t have cancer or AIDS or anything like this, (but) he’s got some problems, man.” As of now, Dana White is working to get Lesnar transferred to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further analysis and treatment.

It sounds like this may be the most difficult fight of Lesnar’s life but, based on his history, if Lesnar can do anything, it’s fight.

Brock Lesnar, born Brock Edward Lesnar, July 12, 1977 in Webster, South Dakota started proving his wrestling talents at Webster high school where he had a wrestling record of 33-0-0 his senior year. From there, he attended the University of Minnesota which provided him with a full wrestling scholarship his junior and senior years. Lesnar went on to win the 2000 NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Championship after placing 2nd in 1999. He left college in 2000 to sign on with the World Wrestling Federation where he fought several dark matches in 2001-2002 before being called up to the WWF main roster. Brock’s public professional wrestling career began March 18, 2002 on an episode of RAW. Lesnar continued to gain popularity in the WWE where his accomplishments include 3X WWE Champion (the youngest person to ever hold this title), 2002’s King of the Ring and conquered 2003’s Royal Rumble event.

In 2004, Lesnar parted ways with WWE with five years left on his contract. Speculated reasons included: his inability to handle the hectic schedule (apparently Lesnar is a farm boy who really didn’t like waking up in hotel rooms every day), he didn’t love pro-wrestling and was just in it for the money, his personal life was adding additional stress and anxiety to the situation, he had already reached the top of wrestling world and wanted a new challenge and lastly, he felt he could really make it in the NFL. With that, Lesnar started to prepare for the National Football League’s try outs and was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings. He played in a few preseason games, created controversy by starting a few minor fights and eventually was cut late from the team. The Vikings offered him an invitation to play for them in the NFL Europa but he declined as he wanted to be closer to his family.

Lesnar returned to professional wrestling in late 2005, joining New Japan Pro Wrestling. He won the IWGP heavyweight championship in his first wrestling match since leaving WWE. He went on to eventually lose his title in 2006.

From there, Lesnar started his career in mixed martial arts in June, 2007. He then signed with Ultimate Fighting Championship in October, 2007. He lost his first match to Frank Mir but as since been undefeated. He obtained the UFC Heavyweight Championship title November 15, 2008 and his current overall mma record is 4-1-0.

Based on all this, it’s apparent that Brock Lesnar is a die-hard fighter and, ultimately, a winner. He steps up to any challenge and prevails. If history is any indicator of what’s to come, Lesnar will beat this illness, whatever it may be, and make a full recovery. Even if he never enters a ring again, he will have fought the fight of his life and won. Proving, once again, he is truly a champion.
