Many of you have seen the late night infomercial about the “Sham Wow,” the absorbent towel that can clean up any spill. Not many people know the man behind the towel. Vince Offer, aka Vince Shlomi, is the inventor of the product as well as the person that you see on the commercials. The Sham Wow is actually the latest, and best selling, of his late night teleproducts.

Offer came to prominence in 1999 when he released the movie “Underground Comedy Movie.” This movie was sold much in the same way that his current products are, via late night television spots. The movie centered on crude and socially unacceptable behavior. The New York Post even said that it “may be the least amusing comedy ever made.”

Shortly after the movie, Offer started appearing in court in several lawsuits. The first was a lawsuit by Offer against 20th Century Fox. He alleged that 14 scenes in the hit movie, “There’s Something About Mary” were stolen from his movie. Eventually, the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice and Offer was ordered to pay Fox’s attorney fees. Later, Offer sued the late Anna Nicole Smith for breach of contract. The starlet backed out of the film at the last minute claiming that it would hurt her career.

Offer would again appear in court again in 2004 when he sued the Church of Scientology after apparently being marked a criminal by the church. In March 1998, a Scientology Court declared Offer guilty on 23 different charges. The court did not summon him to present these charges. In January 2002, a Scientology Appeals Court overturned these charges, but by then, Offer claimed to have suffered damage, including nearly losing his business that was staffed primarily by Scientology members. In order to keep from going broke, Offer started selling the “Slap Chop” at swap meets. Eventually, he made enough money to market the Underground Comedy Movie and subsequently rebuilt his business.

Offer will now get to experience court from the other side of the room as he is now a defendant in a felony assault case that stemmed from a February 7th, 2009 incident. Offer met up with Sasha Harris at Luigi’s Night Club in Miami Beach, FL. They then went back to his hotel room where he agreed to pay $1,000 to Harris in exchange for sex. When Offer when to kiss her, she bit his tongue and would not release the bite. Offer then proceeded to punch Harris until she released the bite.

When authorities arrived, they found Offer bleeding from the mouth. Harris has a large cut on the right side of her mouth and lacerations on the face. She also had several facial fractures. Harris refused to cooperate with authorities $930 was found in her purse. According to the police report, both parties had a strong smell of alcohol on their breath.

A court date has not been set for the assault case. Odds are that the charges will either get dismissed or some type of settlement reached.
